Drunk Animal Creative Studio has joined forces with the team behind the region’s children’s literature festival, The Big Malarkey, to bring its creative flair to the much-loved event.

The much-loved children’s literature festival, which started in 2017, attracts nearly 8,000 young people each year. The festival, which is hosted in a colourful tented village in East Park, gives children from across the city the chance to meet writers, illustrators, poets, performers and puppet-makers, and try their hand at all kinds of practical activities.

The Big Malarkey is organised by Hull Libraries for Hull Culture and Leisure:  a unique resource for the city, visited by over 900,000 people each year, which provides inspiring opportunities to children and young people, schools and families.

The festival is one of many initiatives promoting reading for pleasure and encouraging curiosity, learning and creativity.

Calvin Innes, CEO and creative director at Drunk Animal said; “As a creative person, I understand the importance of encouraging young people to read and explore literature; it’s where I was first inspired to draw and what still inspires my creativity to this day. Without books, I wouldn’t have been able to create the characters I became known for. “

He added, “Drunk Animal is proud to be supporting this year’s Big Malarkey and we’re on a mission to make it bigger and better than ever before. We’re calling on local businesses to support this worthwhile cause and give every young person in Hull the chance to immerse themselves in this year’s Big Malarkey Literature Festival.”

This year’s programme will be announced in April, but it wouldn’t be a Big Malarkey without a whole host of artists, authors, workshops and much more.

Ellen Bianchini, Director of The Big Malarkey said; “We’re very excited about this year’s event and we’re pleased to be working with Calvin and his team at Drunk Animal. This year brings some exciting new additions which we can’t wait to unveil in April. Our aim is to reach more young people than ever before, and in order to do that, we would love the support from the wider business community.
